Q: How do you get a nerd excited?
A: Ask them what their favourite games are.
The question got a surprisingly good, and varied, response, with 40 answers. Mostly unsurprising, but a few interesting choices (Diner Dash? Really?). Here are all the nominations that got more than one vote, in alphabetical order. (Total number of votes in parentheses after the title.)
- Deus Ex (3)
- Diablo 2 (4)
- Doom (2)
- Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (2)
- Fallout 3 (2)
- Grim Fandango (4)
- Half-Life (5)
- Half-Life 2 (4)
- Monkey Island 2 (3)
- Planescape: Torment (2)
- Portal (6)
- Starcraft (6)
- System Shock 2 (2)
- X-COM (2)
According to Tumblr — my followers, at least — these are the best PC games ever. I’ve only played one of these at length (Portal; loved it, but not my favourite game ever), so I won’t attempt to comment, but these all seem like fairly unsurprising choices; I’ve seen all of these games proclaimed as “the best” before.
The full list of answers it below the original post, if you’re interested. There are seem real oddballs in there, like Zork, N (good call, Pilnick), and, of course, Pong.
I have one more post about this to follow (you just helped write it), then I’ll stop rambling on about games. I promise.
trust me to not read the post correctly, I chose xbox games as I haven’t really even looked at pc gaming in 3 - 4 years (I got grew tired of upgrading my pc every 3 - 6 months). The last PC title I spent a goodly amount of time with were Battlefield 2142 and Unreal Tournament 2004.
I thoroughly recommend BF2142 for anyone who enjoys large scale team on team battle (64 players!) it has some really great game modes ( I was particularly sad when they chose not to port it to the xbox360).
